Charlotte property taxes are determined by two combined rates: the Mecklenburg County rate and the City of Charlotte rate. For 2026, the combined rate sits at approximately $0.9656 per $100 of assessed value for properties inside Charlotte city limits (county rate $0.4731 + city rate $0.4925). On a $500,000 home, that's roughly $4,828 per year.

If your home is in unincorporated Mecklenburg County or in a satellite town (Matthews, Mint Hill, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Pineville), the rates differ — usually lower than the city rate but still subject to the county portion.

Homes in Union County (Waxhaw, Marvin, Indian Trail) and Iredell County (Mooresville, Lake Norman north shore) follow entirely different rate schedules — generally 15–25% lower than Mecklenburg.
